What is the KITTEC lid prop?
The KITTEC lid prop is an optional component that is attached to the front or the side of the body of your top-loading kiln. The KITTEC lid prop allows you to keep the kiln lid slightly open. There are two different locking positions for the lid. By keeping the lid slightly open, you can increase the outlet of warm air from the kiln and accelerate the cooling proces without any damage to the kiln body or lid.

The KITTEC lid prop offers the following benefits:
- You save time by shortening the cooling process of your kiln.
- You can adjust the cooling process to your individual needs and the fired goods in the kiln.
How is the KITTEC lid prop used?
Using the KITTEC lid prop is very simple:
At the end of each firing process, the kiln is cooling down naturally. Sometimes, even within lower temperature ranges, this can take quite a long time and requires patience. Some kiln owners want to speed up this cooling process. This is where the KITTEC lid prop comes into play.
- When the kiln has cooled to less than 150° C during the cooling process, you can use the KITTEC lid prop to open the kiln lid and keep it open at one of the two locking stages.
- Usually, at higher temperatures, you first use the lock for the small outlet gap, and at lower temperatures, the position with the larger air outlet. With the help of the lid prop, the kiln lid is fixed at the desired opening level, and more warm air can escape from the kiln. This accelerates the cooling process.
- Once the kiln has cooled down and you want to remove the fired ware, you can open the kiln lid as usual.
Please note that the kiln, its components, and the escaping air can be quite hot. Therefore, always use heat-resistant gloves and be careful when opening the kiln and locking the lid prop.
How can you order the KITTEC lid prop?
The KITTEC lid prop can now be ordered as an option for all KITTEC top-loaders of the STUDIO-LINE, CLASSIC-LINE, and PROFESSIONAL-LINE. Unfortunately, retrofitting is not possible.
For STUDIO- and CLASSIC-LINE top-loader kilns, the KITTEC lid prop is installed at the front. For PROFESSIONAL-LINE top-loaders, the lid prop is attached to the side of the kiln body.
**Note on innovation: Our KITTEC lid prop has received excellent customer feedback. Due to its popularity, the lid prop will be a standard feature for CLASSIC-LINE (excluding RAKU) and PROFESSIONAL-LINE top-loading kilns from late 2024.**
